Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer Studies Honor Jillian Barberie Reynolds, Kris Jenner and Giuliana Rancic with Women of Achievement Awards

Cancer is certainly a serious subject.  Yet given a trio of upbeat honorees – Jillian Barberie Reynolds, Kris Jenner and Giuliana Rancic – at the May 9 Mother’s Day Luncheon to benefit the Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer Studies, also known as the ABCs, a fun mood prevailed at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Shortly after welcoming lunch guests, emcee Lisa Ann Walter of KFI Radio opened her jacket and showed off her décolletage with pride. Later, there was talk of underwear – or more specifically the lack of – on one of the male celebrities.

“Girls with boobs out and guys with no underwear on — this is like a normal lunch at my house,” said Jenner on taking the podium to accept her award. She, of course, was referring to life with her family of reality show stars on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

Walter introduced the recipients of the “Women of Achievement Awards” as “women who live life fearlessly.” Talk show host Leeza Gibbons continued the praise as she introduced Rancic as having, among other laudable attributes: a killer body, the loveliest hair on television and more than 2.5 million twitter followers.

For her part, Rancic gave a touching speech, saying of her recent bout with breast cancer, “It really sucks, doesn’t it?” She followed by describing her experiences and how she found the light in a dark situation. “At some point you have to get up and move on,” she said, adding “Strength really happens when you have no other choice.’

With proceeds going to the John Wayne Cancer Institute at St. John’s Health Center, two of John Wayne’s sons – Ethan Wayne and Patrick Wayne – introduced two of the honorees, Reynolds and Jenner, respectively.

“I’ve been waking up with her for so many years,” said Ethan Wayne of Reynolds, who appears daily on FOX TV’s “Good Day L.A.” He then called Reynolds “a stone fox.”

“Usually I’m on the other side of the carpet,” said Reynolds, an adoptee, who talked of how she tracked down her birth mother, which came with the knowledge that she had cancer in her family. In conclusion, she said she felt honored to be “a face” for the cause.

When it came time to introduce Jenner, Patrick Wayne listed her credentials as a manager and producer, wife of Bruce Jenner, and mother to Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Rob Kardashian, plus Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

After Jenner accepted her award, a Q&A followed. One question concerned any plans for her future participation in “Dancing With The Stars,” following in the footsteps (or dance steps) of her children Kim Kardashian and Rob Kardashian.

Recalling how “Kim proved to the world she really can’t dance,” and more recently, how her son earned the runner-up spot, she said, “I think I’ll leave it at that, on a good note.”

Among others present were Yvonne Braithwaite Burke, David Spade, Gloria Allred, Catherine Bach, Rosa Blasi, Marianne Mobley-Collins, and Ruta Lee. Joining ABC president Gloria E. Gebbia were event co-chairs Beverly Cohen and Lana Schervone and shopping boutique chair Sherry Rosenblum.
