ABT Firebird Premiere Party

Celebrations Mark American Ballet Theatre’s Firebird World Premiere at Segerstrom Center for the Arts

The world premiere of American Ballet Theatre’s new production of “The Firebird” at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa was greeted Mar. 29 with gala celebrations. And deservedly so.

ABT artist in residence Alexei Ratmansky choreographed the brand new production, which debuted at SCFTA as part of the Segerstrom Center’s twenty-fifth anniversary season. Moreover, the evening also included the west coast premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s “Thirteen Diversions” and the SCFTA premiere of Merce Cunningham’s “Duets.”

In addition, the evening also celebrated artistic director Kevin McKenzie’s twentieth anniversary with ABT.

So before the night’s ballet program, Center president Terry Dwyer hosted a President’s Dinner for major donors at the nearby Capital Grille. Then following the performance, the cast joined VIP guests for a late-night buffet at the Jewel Court in South Coast Plaza, host of the affair. In honor of the occasion, party caterer Quattro Café offered a new invention: Firebird martinis.

Party-goers included SCFTA executive vice president Judy Morr, ABT executive director Rachel Moore and lead sponsors Terry Schreyer and George Schreyer; and Mary Cramer and Richard Cramer.

Others were Susan and Tim Strader, Carmella and Ben Du, Olga and Richard Engel, Kathy and Cliff Fleming, Tracey Martin and Roger Kirwan, Christina Lyon, Bill Gillespie, Tricia Berns, Valarie Van Cleave, Deborah Bridges, Carol Pitturo-Kentner, Michael Moser, Gloria Brandeis, Lee Healy, Terry Goldfarb-Lee, Jamie Gwen and Lana Sills.
