Evening With Geena Davis Coming Up
An Evening with Geena Davis to Benefit the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media
“If she can see it, she can be it,” says Geena Davis, the Academy Award-winning actress whose varied roles have included, among other things, a deadly assassin, a professional baseball player and an American president.
Yet according to studies by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, women are still not shown as leaders often enough, especially in children’s programming. And the Institute is working to change that situation.
To further these goals, an Evening with Geena Davis will take place Wed., May 2 at the William Turner Gallery in Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station. Funds raised by the VIP reception and cocktail party will go towards the Institute’s work in helping the entertainment industry to recognize the need for gender balance, to avoid stereotyping and to present women in a variety of roles in programming geared to youngsters.
The host committee includes Judy Belk, senior VP of the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors; Vincent Bruzesse, president of Worldwide Motion Picture Group; Amir Dossal, founder of Global Partnerships Forum; Geralyn Dreyfous, founder of IMPACT Partners Film Fund; Geraldine Laybourne, chairman of Alloy, Inc.; Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment; Franca Virgili, partner of The Cheyenne Group; and Jacki Zehner, founder of The Jacquelyn & Gregory Zehner Foundation.
