Art of Elysium Gala 2012
On the night before the Golden Globes, when one of the year’s most acclaimed films, namely “The Artist,” harkens back to Hollywood’s Golden Era, it seemed fitting for Hollywood’s A-listers to celebrate the Art of Elysium’s fifth annual “Heaven” gala in glamorous vintage style.
And what could be a more perfect setting for the Jan. 14 event than Union Station in Los Angeles, that glorious mix of art deco, Spanish revival and California eclectic architecture, further done up to resemble a dreamy afterworld via the imagination of Cameron Silver, this year’s Visionary Award recipient. Combined with guests in stunning formal gowns, a fashion show of vintage couture from Silver’s Decades Boutique, the scene seemed to come straight out of a 1930s Fred Astaire movie.
Rose McGowan of “Charmed” described her objective as “ethereal,” in her choice of a white Alice Temperley column and Neil Lane bracelet.
“I kept it simple, ethereal,” McGowan said.
In keeping with today’s predilection for jewels, Rachael Harris of “The Hangover” opted for dangling Marina B earrings.
Molly Sims of “Las Vegas” turned up looking like a goddess, albeit a pregnant one.
Among gala committee members, glammed up for the occasion, were Minka Kelly, Brittany Snow, Ali Larter, Busy Philipps, Kelly Osbourne, Amber Heard, Jaime King, Michelle Trachtenberg, Kat Von D, David Arquette, Finola Hughes and Russell Young, Amy Smart and Carter Oosterhouse, and Odette and Dave Annable. Plus, party-goers also included Rachel Bilson, Kirsten Dunst, Camilla Belle, Jamie Lynn-Sigler, Angela Lindvall, Rashida Jones, Brad Goreski, Tracee Ellis Ross, Julianne Hough, Abigail Spencer, Sophia Bush, Alice Eve, Matthew Morrison, Aziz Ansari, and Missy Yager and Sam Trammell.
More than merely showing up for the gala, many of the celebrities have also participated in the charity’s activities throughout the year, by sharing creative pursuits with seriously ill children. The idea is to give them a pleasant break from the otherwise often bleak, hospital routine.
As guests gathered for dinner, Elijah Wood, the night’s Art of Elysium Award honoree, said he particularly enjoyed participating in photo workshops with the children and acting as a deejay at Art of Elysium events.
And do the children recognize the star of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy? “Sometimes they do; sometimes they don’t,” Wood said. “Either way, it’s wonderful to help out.”
Also on scene were Elysium founder Jennifer Howell; Elysium board chair Ryan Kavanaugh, CEO of Relativity Media, and his new bride Britta Lazenga of the Los Angeles Ballet; artist and 2010 Elysium Visionary Shepard Fairey; British, Grammy Award-winning singer Estelle; artist, photographer and playwright Amanda Eliasch, arts supporter Eugene Sadovoy, Elizabeth Stewart, stylist for the night’s fashion show; and event producer Yifat Oren.
More committee members were, Kimberly and Michael Muller, Ericka and Samuel Bayer, Tarina Tarantino and Alfonso Campos, David Meister and Alan Siegel, Emily Yomtobian and Jeff Vespa, Kristen Bell, Jeffrey Best, Brent Bolthouse, Gerard Butler, Scott Caan, Andrea Fiuczmski, Ginnifer Goodwin, Topher Grace, Patrick Herning, Sarah Hyland, Tracey Jacobs, Scarlett Johansson, Hayes MacArthur, Joe Manganiello, Patrik Milani, Amaury Nolasco, Matthew Rhys, Ashley Tisdale, Johnny Wujek, and Alicia Witt.
Audi and Relativity Media sponsored the affair, with presenters also including Beau Joie champagne, Loree Rodkin Beauty and Marina B jewels.
