Bill Clinton Says “Be Positive”

The Former President Talks to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council

Click here to see a video of Bill Clinton’s concluding remarks in his Nov. 10 conversation with Terry McCarthy, president and chief executive of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council

Nothing short of inspiring, the conversation, “America’s Role in the World,” took place as part of LAWAC’s Speaker Series to a sold-out luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Clinton’s talk lasted about an hour and while I ordinarily prefer short speeches, I could have remained listening all day. The former president is as charismatic as people say and his optimism is a joy.

“Don’t let the headlines obscure the trend lines,” he said, soon adding, “We are by far the best-positioned country in the world for the next 20 years – if we do the right things, the right way.”

He then related a conversation he had with Nelson Mandela, saying that if the former leader of South Africa can share power with the people who imprisoned him for 27 years, then the Republicans and Democrats can work together.

“We are in this boat,” he said. “We have to row together.”

Sponsored by UCLA Center for World Health and Barclays, among others.

Thank you Los Angeles World Affairs Council and all those who supported this event.
