Billabong Design For Humanity 2012

Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Darren Criss and Heather Morris of “Glee” Join Surf Enthusiasts at Billabong’s Design For Humanity

Star surfers mixed with recording artists, members of the “Glee” cast and other TV shows, and a major outpouring of surf enthusiasts for a block party in support of the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation at Billabong’s always-spectacular annual Design for Humanity.

A veritable music festival, this year’s bash offered three stages and four bands, including Walk the Moon, Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers and The Joy Formidable. More musicians tucked into doorways and played between the buildings on the New York streets of Paramount Studios in Hollywood, where the July 25 event took place.

There were also T-shirts to custom-design, taco and other fun food stands, an art auction and modern art exhibit, and as a special highlight: a runway show of Billabong’s spring 2013 collection of swimwear and surfwear, plus one-of-a-kind and limited edition bikinis.

Among pro surfers showing up were Taj Burrow, Granger Larsen, Jack Freestone, Keala Kennelly, Tanner Rozunko, Laura Enever, Courtney Conlogue, Kelly Slater, Erica Hosseini, Emi Koch, Bede Durbidge, Lindsay Perry, Ryan Callinan, Catherine Clark, Tyler Warren, Creed McTaggart, Ellie-Jean Coffey and Taylor Pitz. Pro skateboarders were Eero Niemela, Helen Schettini, Jamie Anderson and two-time snowboard Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White.

Also on hand were recording artists Eva Universe, Jordan Corey, Kate Earl and Romeo (also of “Dancing With the Stars;” Miss California Natalie Pack; Sophia Bush of “One Tree Hill,” James Preston of “Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean,” Mayte Garcia of VH1’s “Hollywood Exes,” Grant Harvey of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” Courtney Hansen of Spike TV’s “Powerblock,” Jen Lilley of MTV’s “Disaster Date,” Jonathan Mangum of “Trust Us With Your Life,” Lisa D’Amato of “America’s Next Top Model” and Jazz Raycole of “The Soul Man.”

Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Darren Criss and Heather Morris of “Glee” were also spotted venturing onto the backlot to enjoy Billabong’s hospitality. For the musical group, the festivities were an easy stroll from where taping had begun for Season 4. Besides that, Morrison’s girlfriend, the very beautiful model/singer/songwriter Renee Puente, walked the catwalk in the Billabong swimwear fashion show.

Regarding the Glee cast’s joining the block party, witness that day’s tweets from Lea Michele, aka Rachel Berry:

Party-goers paid between $30 and $99 per ticket for Design for Humanity, with proceeds from the art auction, ticket sales and other sources going to the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation, which is dedicated to creating a sustainable, healthful food future by supporting family farms, the environment and youth education programs. While funds have not yet been completely tabulated, organizers report $111,000 from ticket sales alone. Event sponsors included Verizon, Sony Experia and Chipotle Mexican Grill.
