The California Women’s Conference 2012 had a star-studded celebration to announce plans for this year’s always-compelling and informative 2-day affair, which will take place Sept. 23-24 at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center.

The festive launch took place Aug. 2 at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, attracting Francis Fisher of “Titanic,” Tippi Hedren of “The Birds,” Marcia Cross of “Desperate Housewives,” Morgan Brittany of “Dallas,” Kate Linder of “The Young and the Restless,” Erin Murphy, aka Tabitha of “Bewitched,” Romi Dames of “Winx Club,” Donzaleigh Abernathy of “Gods and Generals,” Sharon Lawrence of “NYPD Blue,” Geri Jewell of “The Facts of Life,” Lee Purcell of “Mr. Majestyk,” TV host Mother Love, producer Kim Rubin, night club singer Barbara Van Orden and David Misch, author of “Funny, the Book.” Also on hand were three women of TV’s “The Waltons:” Mary McDonough, Kami Cotler and Judy Norton.

According to conference organizer Michelle Patterson, the conference will highlight the role of women, both in business and in the home. Event title aside, she said men are welcome, too.

In addition to those attending the launch, scheduled participants will include the legendary Carol Channing, high-profile attorney Gloria Allred, fashion designer Donna Karan, relationship counselor John Gray, photographer Amanda de Cadenet, humorist Judy Carter, actors Shannon Tweed, Patricia Arquette, Dorothy Lucey, Judy Tenuta, Michael Learned, Rose Marie, Julie Newmar, Camryn Manheim and JoAnne Worley, and many more speakers from a variety of fields. Melissa Manchester will perform.

There will be women legislators, entrepreneurs, comedians, actors, sports figures, financiers, journalists, working mothers, health professionals, beauty experts and social media authorities. Also on the agenda are the “Good News” Girls: EMMY Award Winning Journalists” and “The Women of Walton’s Mountain.”

The original California Women’s Conference began as the California Governor & First Lady’s Conference on Women in 1985, when Gloria and then-Governor George Deukmejian wished to address the high failure rate of women-owned businesses. The acclaimed conference reached its peak of popularity under the stewardship of former first lady Maria Shriver, during her husband Arnold Schwarzenegger’s governorship. Today Michelle Patterson, CEO of EventComplete, an event production company, has taken over and re-launched the event.
