City Year Spring Break Destination Education
“City Year Spring Break Destination Education 2013,” coming up Aprl. 20, looks better than ever.
Celebrating City Year Los Angeles Corps members who donate a year of their lives to keep at-risk youngsters in school, and on target for graduation, the annual shindig at Sony Studios offers live music, an abundance of delicious foods, and carnival-style, interactive booths operated by the event’s sponsors.
Skylar Grey and DJ SkyBlu of LMFAO will provide the entertainment, and while details of the booths have not yet been announced, last year People photographed guests for magazine covers, “E! Entertainment” auditioned announcers and Sephora did makeovers, among many other fun activities around the lot.
The night also presents an opportunity to meet a Hollywood A-list of stars on the host committee, which includes, among others, Anne Hathaway, Adam Shulman, Joel McHale, Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Vince Vaughn, Julie Bowen, Edward Norton, Jim Belushi, Billy Burke, Pau Gasol, Cobie Smulders, David Giuntoli, Matt Bomer, Simon Halls and Justin Bartha.
More are Jason Bateman, Hill Harper, Octavia Spencer, Chris Hemsworth, Liam Hemsworth, Megan Hilty, Antawn Jamison, Rashida Jones, Deandre Jordan, Teresa Palmer, Andrew Rannells, Blake Shelton, Trey Thompkins, Emily Vancamp, Ed Westwick, Catherine Keener, Anthony Mackie, and Adam Levine. Although schedules change and not all the hosts show up, plenty more personalities join in at the last minute.
Such impressive support stems directly from the cause, which is universally compelling, according to event co-chair Stacey Snider, CEO of DreamWorks. “It’s not red or blue. It’s not conservative or liberal. It’s an easy cause to get behind,” she said. “It’s easy to understand that the kids in underserved schools need more help to graduate.”
The celebrities, Snider said, are touched by the corps members. “They understand that by lending their name, it makes a difference,” she said, “and by coming in with great spirit, they make a difference.”
Event sponsors include the Hauptman Family Foundation, Microsoft, NFL, People, Aramark Uniform Services, Bank of America, Comcast NBC Universal, Deluxe, Discovery Communications, the Walt Disney Studios, DreamWorks Studios, DreamWorks, E! Pop of Culture; David Geffen Foundation, HBO, J Brand, Sony Pictures, Technicolor, Universal, 20th Century Fox, WB, Thursday Nights and others.
