Disney On Ice Toy Story 3 Premiere
Just before the premiere of “Disney On Ice: Disney-Pixar Toy Story 3” at Staples Center on Dec. 14, Kourtney Kardashian, Gilles Marini of “Switched at Birth,” Melissa Joan Hart of “Melissa & Joey,” Evan Lysacek and Megyn Price of “Rules of Engagement,” and their families bundled up to mix with Ken, Barbie, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Jessie the Cowgirl and other classic Toy Story and Disney characters at the ice skating rink at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles.
More celebrities were Brooke Burke of “Dancing with the Stars” and David Charvet of “Baywatch,” Garcelle Beauvais of “Franklin & Bash,” Kyle Richards of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” Ariel Winter of “Modern Family,” Jennifer Love Hewitt of “Ghost Whisperer” and Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott of “Tori & Dean.”
Also prominent on the guest list were supporters of Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, invited as part of AEG’s Season of Giving program, which highlights different charities each night in December to raise funds and awareness of hunger, homelessness and healthcare. AEG is the sports and entertainment giant that owns and operates Staples Center and L.A. Live, among other venues worldwide.
Given that California children have limited experience with frozen lakes, abilities on the ice varied considerably. Figure skating champion and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Evan Lysacek said he felt out of his element in hockey skates, but still sped past the others at the skating party with his characteristic grace. Lysacek brought with him Michelle Kwan’s sister and her sister’s children. “Skating is in their blood,” he said.
Later all adjourned to Staples Center for refreshments, ornament-making, cookie decorating and photo opportunities with Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The Disney On Ice Toy Story 3 Premiere followed.
“We are so looking forward to Disney on Ice,” said Beauvais as she decorated cookies with her son, Jaid Nilon, 4, before the show, adding that both her twins – Jaid and Jax – enjoyed meeting Buzz Lightyear on the red carpet.
The Celebrities also created and signed ornaments for the Celebri-tree at Children’s Hospital. “I’ve already made two ornaments,” said Ariel Winter, who was smart enough to wear earmuffs on the chilly night.
Earlier in the evening, Jennifer Lynch, director of the Staples Center Foundation and Claudia Levine, the hospital’s senior vice president, welcomed the celebrities and other guests. Members of the U.S. Marine Corps accepted a donation of new toys to benefit Toys for Tots and as the audience watched from outside the ice rink, Chief Petty Officer Juan Zitino surprised his family by coming home for Christmas for the first time since returning home from Iraq.
After its run at Staples Center through Dec. 18, Disney On Ice Toy Story 3 moves to the Honda Center in Anaheim Dec. 20-25; Citzens Business Bank Arena in Ontario Dec. 28-Jan. 1; and the Long Beach Arena Jan. 4-8.
