Eco Oscars 2013
“Django Unchained,” “Curfew,” “Searching for Sugarman” and Other Nominees Drop Into Eco Oscars 2013 for Music, Refreshments and Sustainable Gifts
As part of pre-Oscar festivities, Debbie Durkin presented the “Eco-Oscars 2013” on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23.
The two afternoons featured musical performances, refreshments and gifts for Oscar nominees and other VIPs at a private home in Beverly Hills. Durkin has a TV and film production company specializing in sustainables and product placement.
Among those stopping by were producer Reginald Hudlin of “Django Unchained;” producer Damon Russell of “Curfew;” Fatima Ptacek, of “Curfew” and “Dora the Explorer;” director Malik Bendjellou of “Searching for Sugar Man;” David Costabile of “Lincoln” and “Suits;” cinematographer Seamus McGarvey of “Anna Karenina,” and many more.
Just like this year’s Academy Awards, the event had a James Bond theme, in this case done in conjunction with the Tourist Board of Jamaica, where Ian Fleming wrote his 007 novels. We Rock Green Mics, the eco-performance poetry collective from “With Our Words, Inc.,” served as the event’s charity partner.
All throughout the two days, guests sampled cocktails, Jamaican foods and frozen desserts, while checking out displays of jewelry, cosmetics, and accessories and filling their gift bags with eco-friendly products. Among other sponsors were Lifeway Foods, jeweler Michael Greene & Co., HUGRZ boot wraps, Luna Bars, Minky Couture blankets, Kaia’s Juicy Bamboo, John Paul Pet Grooming Packs, Vitaphenol, and O.P.I. Skyfall James Bond 007 Nail Polish.
