Host Emmy Rossum LA Opera
“Shameless” star Emmy Rossum will join LA Opera fans this year in celebrating the Sept. 17 season-opening performance of “Eugene Onegin.” She is honorary chair of the after-party for “Aria,” the LA Opera’s support group for young professionals in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
Long acquainted with the operatic arts, at age seven Rossum sang in the Metropolitan Opera’s Children’s Chorus, and then, after singing in 20 different operas in five different languages, she starred as Christine in the film, “Phantom of the Opera.”
Aria consists of newcomers to the world of opera, as well as others long-immersed in the opera culture. The idea behind the group’s formation, according to founder Jill Baldauf, an LA Opera board member, is to make opera more approachable to young people, with “40 and under” as the target market. The group has periodic get-togethers, including post-opera parties throughout the season.
A more elaborate White Night Season-Opening Gala awaits LA Opera’s major supporters, which begins at 5:00 p.m. that same day with a glamorous champagne reception and Russian-themed dinner. Tchaikovsky’s opera, set in Imperial Russia, will follow and the evening will culminate with the after-party for all gala-goers – the Aria group included – which will feature drinks, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a techno-pop band for dancing.
Tickets for the entire White Night Gala, starting with the champagne reception, range from $1,500 to $5,000 per person, with more details here. Aria members can buy tickets for the opera and after-party for $200 per person and up, with more details here.
Production sponsors are Milena and Milan Panic with additional support from Nancy and Barry Sanders. You’ll find another story about the LA Opera and its recent party in Paris with Placido Domingo here. Domingo is the LA Opera’s general director.
