Fall Winter 2013 Haute Couture Collections
The June 30-July 4 haute couture offerings for fall winter 2013 proved to be well worth the trip to Paris.
Aside from the beautiful collections from the established houses, some relative newcomers attracted some serious attention. Best of all, two of the great names – Christian Lacroix and Elsa Schiaparelli – returned in brilliant, innovative style.

By way of trends, gowns seemed to sparkle more than usual, especially at Atelier Versace and Elie Saab – and the usual is significant as these gowns are favorites for the Oscars in winter; the Emmys in the fall.
These collections included plenty of red carpet candidates, most of them designed to showcase a toned body. Jean Paul Gaultier also showed skin, but in his case, the spotted kind that comes from animals, all coordinated to animal-print tights and hairdos.
Choosing Russian Gothic as her theme, Ulyana Sergeenko’s line was demure by comparison, while emphasizing femininity and fantasy.
Alexis Mabille made his season’s statement with draping, hand-painting and oversize bows, the best looks pairing richly-embellished toppings over skinny pants.
Stephane Rolland delivered his signature architectural designs, so favored by Kim Kardashian, in navy, black and white. For extra interest at the show: a flamenco dancer performed throughout.
Also a celebrity favorite, having dressed Rihanna, Michelle Dockery, Heidi Klum, Rita Ora and Lady Gaga, Alexandre Vauthier showed sexy, leg-baring skirts, soft jackets and lots of leather.
Zuhair Murad closed the season, by showing his collection of sexy lace gowns – popular with Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Kerry Washington, among others – to an audience that included loyal fan Kristen Stewart in his 2012 couture catsuit.
