“Backstage at the Geffen” is never predictable.

This year’s affair honored Billy Crystal, the actor, comedian and 9-time Oscar host, and Bruce Ramer, founding chair of the Geffen Playhouse. No other names appeared on the invitation, just the words, ”surprise storytellers” and “musical guest performances.” 

The May 13 storytellers turned out to be an A-list of talent, including Annette Bening, Morgan Freeman, Carol Kane, Topher Grace and Bruce Vilanch.

They told backstage tales, some amusing, some laugh-out-loud hilarious, and much as I’d love to repeat them, host Debbie Allen warned that the stories were off-the-record. So readers won’t find them here, (although if anyone should run into Vilanch I’d suggest asking about Imelda Marcos.)

Yet there are a few more details of the evening in my story in the Los Angeles Times. And as the LA Times, however, only printed one picture – (although a great one: Carl Reiner kissing Billy Crystal’s forehead with his thumb over one eye) – I’ve put more pictures of the talent, honorees, presenters and guests on this page and in the gallery below.

As for the musical performers, Rita Wilson and Jackson Browne sang two duets: “Let It Be Me” and “Dream.” Josh Gad, an original cast member from “Book of Mormon,” opened the show, belting out an irreverent tune about Jesus.

Mona Golabek also told a story, in her case, a poignant tale as she played the piano, just as she had in the Geffen’s long-running “The Pianist of Willesden Lane.”

Here, too, are a few more notes: Clint Eastwood presented the award to Ramer, aided by an empty chair that Allen placed there mid-presentation. Going along with the friendly jab, referring to his stint at the 2012 Republican National Convention, Eastwood continued along in good spirits. 

The presentation to Crystal came next, and Allen began by welcoming her husband, Norm Nixon, to the stage for a video salute from the Los Angeles Clippers.

Comedy legend Carl Reiner followed to give Crystal his award. After doing so, before departing the stage, he appeared to notice for the first time, the storytellers and singers at the far end of the stage. They were quietly sitting there after having shared their stories and songs.

Seemingly startled at the sight, Reiner said, “The greatest talent in the world – in the dark.” 

For his part, Crystal repaid the tribute by telling a story about Geffen founder, the late Gil Cates. He then recounted his own memories of the theater and most impressively, said a few words about nearly everybody’s backstage tale or performance.  

The Geffen’s chairman of the board Frank Mancuso also spoke, announcing proceeds in excess of $1.2 million. 

Faces in the crowd included Roma Downey, whose TV miniseries, “The Bible,” is now setting sales records on DVD; Perrey Reeves of “Entourage;” Robert Zemeckis, director of “Flight;” former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan; Pamela Robinson Hollander, gala committee chair, and Robert Hollander. 

More were Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios; Bruce Rosenblum, president of Warner Bros. Television Group, and Ande Rosenblum; Barry Meyer, chairman of Warner Bros. Entertainment, and Wendy Smith Meyer; Jim Gianopulos, chairman and chief executive of Fox Filmed Entertainment, and Ann Gianopulos; Russell Goldsmith, chair of City National Bank, and Karen Mack, author of “Freud’s Mistress,” and Martha Henderson, manager of City National Bank’s entertainment division.

City National Bank served as the title sponsor. Presenting sponsors included the W Los Angeles – Westwood Hotel and its backyard restaurant, where the host committee enjoyed an al fresco dinner; and Audi, also providing cars to shuttle guests from restaurant to theater.

Backstage at the Geffen 2013

Is there another museum in the world, other than the Santa Monica Museum of Art, that would consider serving guests dinner at a $1,200-a-plate event on a banana leaf instead of a plate? 

But then, such a fun and surprising touch to the family-style dinner service at the May 9 PreCognito Gala was business as usual at SMMoA.  The museum’s “unexpected quality” was just one the topics Peter Sellars broached in accepting an award that night.

Here are the basics: The PreCognito Gala let guests preview the 700 artworks coming up for sale at the May 11 Incognito, SMMoA’s signature anonymous art sale and annual party.

This means that all artworks, whether donated by emerging, mid-career or big name artists, sell for the same $350 plus tax. Buyers, however, don’t get to see the signature until after they make their purchase.

PreCognito, in addition, honored Sellars, the legendary theater/opera director, and the pioneering art gallery owner Margo Leavin were the night’s honorees. Artists Bill Viola and John Baldesari gave the presentations.

At the podium, Sellars had energy to spare, holding forth on SMMoA’s unique qualities, the “satisfying joyous energy” of the dinner party, the difficulty of getting funding for worthwhile projects, the new ecology, the wildflowers on the table, and the coming subway stop near Bergamot Station, where the museum is located.

“I’ve lived in L.A. 25 years and I do not drive, and I am thrilled that the subway is going to come here,“ Sellars said, before turning to Elsa Longhauser, executive director of the museum. “Way to go, Elsa,” he added with yet more enthusiasm. 

For her part, Leavin said she wished to share SMMoA’s acknowledgement with friends and colleagues, calling them the “exceptional artists, committed collectors, inspirational curators, insightful writers and graceful colleagues,” with whom she has had long and trusting relationships.

Guests included Sue Naegle, president of HBO Entertainment and UTA’s David Kramer; filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris; Rebecca Rigg of “Fair Game,” skateboarding champ Salman Agah, SMMoA board chair Price Latimer Agah, collectors Rosette Delug, Eileen Harris Norton, and artists Alexis Smith, Barbara Kruger, Lari Pittman, Larry Bell, Mark Bradford, Betye Saar, Salomon Huerta, Allen de Castro, Ed Moses, Samira Yamin and more.

Chef Alice Waters of Chez Panisse in Berkeley envisioned the dinner; Suzanne Goin of Lucques catered the “joyous” affair. Christina Kim of dosa designed the décor.

Bruce Adlhoch and Shulamit Nazarian co-chaired PreCognito, along with committee members Price Arana, Jeff Davis, Carla Kirkeby, James Parks and Randi Malkin Steinberger.

PreCognito for Incognito 2013 at SMMoA 

Now celebrating its 100^th year, the Anti-Defamation League honored Jeffrey Katzenberg at its “Centennial Entertainment Industry Dinner,” in accordance with this year’s theme, “Imagine a World Without Hate.” Katzenberg is chief executive of DreamWorks Animation.

“To imagine a world without hate would be heaven,” said Roma Downey during the May 8 affair at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

And Downey should know. She starred as one of heaven’s denizens for 9 seasons on TV’s “Touched by an Angel.” More recently, she played another spiritual figure: Mother Mary in “The Bible,” the mini-series Downey and her husband, Mark Burnett, conceived and produced. (Burnett also produced “Survivor” and other reality shows.)

Dinner began as Kirk Douglas kicked off official ceremonies. (Closing in on his 100th birthday himself, the legendary star of “Spartacus” recently turned 96.) The night’s emcees – comedian Rob Riggle, well-known for his reports on “The Daily Show” and Sarah Chalke of “How to Live With Your Parents” – then welcomed the crowd. 

Taking his turn at the podium, Abraham Foxman – ADL’s national director – praised Katzenberg for his work and ideals, as they reflect, he said, “ADL’s message of “respect, inclusion, acceptance and courage to stand up to evil.“

“We have learned to walk on the moon,” Foxman continued, “but we have not learned to walk in harmony on earth.” He talked about strides in other areas as well, such as heart health, adding, “but we have failed to find the formula to erase hate in the heart.”  

Yet in accepting his award, Katzenberg talked of the positive changes that have occurred in world views. He encouraged members of the entertainment industry to use their opportunity to enlighten, ticking off names in a diverse list of films that have been sending messages of anti-discrimination, including “Grapes of Wrath,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” “Philadelphia,” “The Help,” “Beauty and the Beast,” the recent “42” and others.  

Others in the audience were CEO Jim Gianopulos of Fox Filmed Entertainment; “Star Wars” creator George Lucas and Mellody Hobson; action film producer Jerry Bruckheimer; Relativity Media chief executive Ryan Kavanaugh, and Ruth and Judea Pearl, the parents of Daniel Pearl. 

Corporate sponsors included the David Geffen Foundation, Twentieth Century Fox, Disney and Comcast NBC Universal.

ADL Centennial Entertainment Industry Dinner

Who would have guessed that a student fashion show could be as imaginative, fun and exhilarating as the elite-label runway parades in the world’s fashion capitols?

The answer: Probably anyone who’s ever attended an Otis College of Art and Design “Scholarship Benefit and Fashion Show.” (Check back later for pictures of the fashion show.)

For those of us attending for the first time, the May 4 affair – which raised more than $1 million for scholarships – was quite the revelation. Yet judging from the list of mentors for the students, it should have come as no surprise. They included Billabong, Mary Jo Bruno, Marisol Gerona for Disney, Venus Williams’ Eleven, Halston with the Humane Society, Betsy Heimann with Western Costume, Bob Mackie, Claire Pettibone, Cynthia Vincent, Heather Brown for Urban Outfitters and Christopher Wicks.

Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the affair honored Kirk Nix of KNA Design with the Creative Vision Award. The inaugural Style Icon Award went to Sally Perrin, creative director of the luxury leather goods company, Perrin Paris.

The night also spotlighted the Otis Sustainability Alliance, which promotes environmental, social, educational and economic responsibility in reusing and re-purposing materials to create products that “do no harm” to the world.

As guests settled down to dinner, gala chair Shelley Reid spoke of “the fabulously talented” Nix, calling him “the leading force in some of the world’s most celebrated luxury hotels.” Regarding Perrin’s award, Reid summed up the intangible concept of style. “You know it when you see it,” she said.

Taking his turn at the podium Bob Mackie elaborated further. “To me, the word style has to have the world personal preceding it,” he said. “Personal style has no age, no social status and can exist anywhere in life.”

Rosemary Brantley, founding chair of Otis Fashion Design, presided over the show, which was, as Mackie correctly stated – an extravaganza – and wonderfully entertaining, inspired by such diverse concepts as Disney’s “Monsters University,” faux fur, sustainable swimwear, country weddings, 1960s music, tennis wear, 1930s art deco jewels and a trio of classic films.

With Elaine Goldsmith as founding chair, the gala committee consisted of Aaina Agarwal, Libby Applebaum Harrison, Kendra Bollenbach, Christine Chiu, Diane Conn, Kate Coppola, NJ Goldston, Lena Hermansson, Deborah Lynn Irmas, Lisa Janian, Pat Kandel, Kadi Lee, Cathy Louchheim, Carolyn Mahboubi, Lisa Maroney, Laura Maslon, Amé Austin Max, Kristi McKnight, David McNeary, Katherine Neifeld, Cynthia Occelli, Pamela Page, Jennifer Perry, Angela Rich, Gary Sommerstein and Claudia Teran. 

Among others in the crowd were Quiksilver CEO Bob McKnight, Hurley CEO Bob Hurley, Nike V.P. Roger Wyett, architect Fred Fisher, Jeff Snyder and Cameron Silver of “Decades,” and Nicolas Bijan Pakzad.

Otis Scholarship Benefit and Fashion Show

The 20th Anniversary May 3 affair, “Love to Erase MS” at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, rose to a new level, as the evening began with honors for the Osbourne family and ended with performances few people would expect to see close up at a charity gala: multi-platinum singer Taio Cruz and the legendary Sir Elton John.

Moreover, this year, the event raised $1.8 million for the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis, dedicated to finding treatments and an ultimate cure for MS.

Stars turned up onstage and in the audience as well. Marg Helgenberger, Neil Patrick Harris, Howie Mandel and Shaun Robinson all participated in ceremonies. Fashion design dynamo Tommy Hilfiger and his wife Dee Hilfiger mingled with party-goers perusing the auction tables during the cocktail reception. 

More familiar faces in the crowd included Rod Stewart, Ray Romano, Anne Heche, Cybill Shepherd, La Toya Jackson, Daisy Fuentes, Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin.

More were Spice Girl Mel B, Victoria Justice, Cat Deeley, Aly Michalka, AJ Michalka, Bella Thorne, Ziggy Marley, Kristin Cavallari, Kathy Hilton, Camille Grammar and Kim Richards.

From “Dancing With the Stars” came judge Bruno Tonioli, this year’s contenders Kellie Pickler, Ingo Rademacher and Lisa Vanderpump; and pro dancers Anna Trebunskaya, Chelsie Hightower, Lindsay Arnold and Maxim Chmerkovskiy.  

Pickler, seated across from me at dinner, said she was commuting back and forth to Nashville to record an album, dancing 6 hours a day and yet, through all, having fun. (Just thinking about such a schedule would tire some people out.) 

As ceremonies got underway, Nancy Davis took the podium. “Can you feel the love tonight?” she said, as a prelude of the performance to come, before talking of the great progress made in the treatment of MS. 

Kelly Osbourne next ascended the stage to present her mother, Sharon Osbourne, and brother, Jack Osbourne, with the charity’s “Medal of Hope.” All had words of praise for Davis, the charity and the gala, too.

Sharon Osbourne called Davis an “unbelievable gift from God.” Jack Osbourne, recently diagnosed with MS, said “This is like the Bar Mitzvah I never had.”

With short, tidy speeches and an auction while we ate, this Gala was nothing if not efficient – definitely a big plus for L.A. gala-goers who like getting home at a reasonable hour. 

Then again, no one complained about the length of the show. In fact, it seemed a great privilege to see these supernovas give lengthy and powerful performances in such proximity to us all.

First up: Taio Cruz with “Break Your Heart,” “Higher” and “Dynamite,” for which he asked the audience to sing along.

“I need everyone and I’m not just saying that. I actually really do mean everyone to help me sing along with this one,” Cruz said. “So this is your chance right now for you to sound sexy.”

Sounding barely different from his 40-year old recordings, John sang “Tiny Dancer,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues,” “Rocket Man,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Your Song,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me,” “I’m Still Standing,” “Circle of Life,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”

He took a break between tunes to give a shout-out to Rod Stewart, seated with the Davis family.

John estimated his friendship with Stewart at nearly 44 years. “And we’re still around and at the top of our games,” he said. “We’ve had so many laughs together and so many great times and played so many pranks on each other… At the heart of it, we’re great mates. So, I love you, all right.” 

Lynn Palmer co-chaired the auction, which by itself has raised more than $8 million over the years. Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, Associated Television International and American Airlines sponsored the event.

Race to Erase MS 2013

“Good times are about to begin,” said Chelsea Handler, taking the stage as host of “An Unforgettable Evening,” benefiting the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation. (Handler was right, so check the photo gallery below to see more pictures from those good times.)

Handler, star of her talk show, “Chelsea Lately,” began by congratulating all those guests who don’t know her, as that means, she said, they don’t watch the “E!” channel or care about keeping up with the Kardashians. (She phrased her words somewhat differently – Chelsea-Handler-style – but that’s basically what she said.)

Clearly, however, she was no stranger to the audience. Nor was the night’s blockbuster headliner, Bruno Mars, who delivered a 20-minute set. His words were so familiar, in fact, that the crowd sang along to his final number, “Just the Way You Are,” which he dedicated, he said, “to all the beautiful, strong women in his audience.” 

“We don’t want to say that we don’t miss Tom and Steven being here,” said Wilson, “but we just have to say we’re proud to have ‘sisters doing it for themselves.’”

That sisterhood also included the night’s honorees: Kylie Minogue, recipient of the Courage Award and iconic fashion designer Carolina Herrera, who took home the Nat King Cole Award.

As if that weren’t enough star power, the May 2 affair also attracted Vanessa Bryant and Kobe Bryant, shown here in the LA Times accessorizing with crutches, thanks to a torn Achilles. Also on scene were Angie Harmon of “Rizzoli and Isles,” Julianne Hough of “Rock of Ages,” Lisa Kudrow of “Friends,” model Amber Valetta, Kelly Lynch and Katherine Castro of “Silent Cry.”

Presented at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel by Saks Fifth Avenue, more beautiful, strong women were the charity’s co-founders Anne Douglas, Kelly Chapman Meyer, Jamie Tisch, Quinn Ezralow and Marion Laurie.  More notable guests were Kirk Douglas, Ron Meyer, Steve Tisch, Monique Lhuillier, Crystal Lourd, Joel Silver, Vanessa Getty, Gelila Puck, Dee and Tommy Hilfiger and Saks Fifth Avenue chair Steve Sadove. 

Anyone wondering about the performance by Bruno Mars, described (accurately, in my humble opinion,) as “sexy, sexy, sexy” by Handler,  he sang five songs: “Runaway Baby,” “Money,” “Billionaire,” “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Just the Way You Are.”

May 3 – Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis “Race to Erase MS: Love to Erase MS,” has snagged the great Elton John and Taio Cruz for its twentieth Gala, honoring Sharon Osbourne and Jack Osbourne. I am always astonished at the caliber of talent appearing at this annual shindig, but this year, it seems Davis and her committee have outdone themselves. The evening begins with cocktails amid a 500-item silent auction filled with one-one-a-kind items, and continues to a gala dinner, celebrity fashion show and entertainment. May 11 – Santa Monica Museum of Art “Incognito” is the museum’s signature annual party, this year offering more than 700 artworks by emerging, mid-career and big name artists, including Edgar Arceneaux, Mark Bradford, Judy Chicago, Mary Kelly, Catherine Opie, Raymond Pettibon, William Pope, Ed Ruscha and Betye Saar, among others. May Los Angeles Social Calendar

The directors of BritWeek 2013 staged “A Salute to Oid Hollywood” to kick off the year’s annual, nearly two week long celebration of creative ties between Great Britain and California.

Appropriately enough for a Hollywood tribute, guests included, among others, two James Bonds: Timothy Dalton, of “The Living Daylights” and “Licence to Kill,” and George Lazenby of “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” (leading Adam Tschorn and Booth Moore of the LA Times to wonder, “If you have two 007s in the house, does that mean you’ve got one agent 014?”)

Also from Hollywood, (granted, not of the old-Hollywood type,) came Mischa Barton of “The O.C.,” Sebastian Knapp of “The Bible,” host Louise Roe of “Fashion Star,” Terri Seymour of “Extra;” “Dancing With the Stars” judge Bruno Tonioli and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Lisa Vanderpump; plus Judi Shekoni of “Twilight,” Tehmina Sunny of “Argo” and the upcoming “Mistresses,” Xander Berkeley of “24,” Vinny Jones of “Snatch,” Juliet Mills, Downtown Julie Brown, Max Caulfield, Lady Victoria Hervey, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Los Angeles Councilmember Tom LaBonge. 

Taking place at the official British Residence of Consul General Dame Barbara Hay, done up with a 1920s vibe, Laurel and Hardy – aka Paul Reid and Brian Patrick Mulligan – greeted guests on arrival. An oversize card also awaited signatures to welcome the soon-to-arrive royal baby.

Prosecco was served Prohibition-style, in Wedgewood teacups to disguise the then-forbidden demon alcohol. A photo booth gave people the chance to pose in flapper hats, furs and cigarette holders, courtesy of Boots, the mega-pharmacy chain out of England. And a jaguar sat outside, just beside the red carpet.

In a conversation in the garden, board member Fiona Francois talked of the Apr. 24 UK Trade and Investment Business Innovation Awards, “It’s the next best thing after the Oscars, I promise,” she said. 

As a fan of “Dancing With the Stars,” I also had the great opportunity to talk with judge Bruno Tonioli, one of the show’s reigning dance experts, about, among other things, contender Zendaya’s extraordinary talent.  (Isn’t she amazing?!!)

In official remarks from up on the bandstand, Hay welcomed guests; royal family member Lord Frederick Windsor proposed a toast to the Queen; and BritWeek board chair Bob Peirce talked of the upcoming events, which readers will find by clicking here.

In one highlight, slated for May 3, BritWeek will honor TV’s “Downton Abbey” with Laura Carmichael, the show’s Lady Edith; executive producer Graeme Neame; and other cast members. Held at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, the event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles.

BritWeek board members also include Sharon Harroun Peirce, Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” Paul Wright, Simon Wright, Stephen Lloyd, Christopher Guy Harrison, Nigel Daly, Michael Krycler, Danny Lopez and Barry Waldo. 

Wedgewood, Boots, Jaguar and BBC Worldwide sponsored the BritWeek launch.

Three Hemsworth brothers, four “American Idol” contenders and a healthy helping of A-listers from “The Help,” “Glee,” “Gossip Girl,” “Desperate Housewives,” “New Girl,” and other hit films and TV shows joined supporters of City Year Los Angeles for “Spring Break: Destination Education.” As in years past, the Apr. 20 affair meant fun, food and an abundance of carnival style games at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City. (Check back later to see more photographs.)

“We designed the Spring Break fundraiser to appeal to teens and tweens and their families, so we can engage young people and inspire them,” said Stacey Snider, in a conversation before the event. Snider is CEO of DreamWorks and an event co-chair.

Certainly the formula works.  Attendance this year grew to more than 1,400 guests, who came to celebrate City Year Los Angeles AmeriCorps members. Proceeds, too, broke records at $1.3 million.

Corps members give up a year of their lives to keep at-risk students from dropping out of school and on track to graduation. Snider said that many of the celebrities get involved, too, not only by attending Spring Break, but also by visiting the schools on City Year’s service days.

This year’s sterling line-up included Liam Hemsworth of “The Hunger Games,” Chris Hemsworth of “The Avengers”and Luke Hemsworth of “Neighbours;” contenders Kree Harrison, Candice Glover, Angie Miller and Amber Holcomb of “American Idol; and Viola Davis, Ahna O’Reilly and Octavia Spencer from “The Help.” 

From “Glee” came Chord Overstreet and Harry Shum, Jr.; from “Gossip Girl:” Jessica Szohr and Ed Westwick; from “Desperate Housewives:” Charlie Carver and Max Carver; and from “New Girl:” Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone.

City Year Los Angeles Spring Break 2013

Rather than choose a single concept for MOCA’s Gala “Yesssss!” artist Rob Pruitt opted for what he called a “Po-Po-Mo” route to celebrate the opening of the museum’s major Urs Fischer show. (Check the gallery below for party photos.)

Shorthand for his post-postmodern equation of a culture/power clash of mismatched themes, the cocktail reception featured among other elements: Hawaiian leis, Russian Vodka cocktails, a goat-petting zoo, a munchies station, and a blow-up panda pointing the way to the porta-potties.

At dinner, Pruitt presented the USC Trojan Marching Band; wall projections of whales, nature scenes, flying money, the moon and more; and a cascade of dollars-off coupons from Whole Foods coming down from the ceiling onto all our heads. For musical entertainment, the night mixed Belinda Carlisle and the Go-Go’s, Mark Mothersbaugh, No Age, and Jennifer Herrema and Black Bananas. Comedy performances came courtesy if Nick Kroll, Kumail Nanjiani and Steven Nichols. 

Plus, this being the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Gala, guests got a first look at a remarkable exhibition by the internationally-acclaimed Fischer, so comprehensive that the artwork filled both MOCA Grand Avenue and the Geffen Contemporary.

“Ask your teenagers,” said Maria Arena Bell, who also announced proceeds of $2.5 million. Bell and Eli Broad served as Gala Chairs.

Museum co-chair David Johnson preceded Bell, for his part thanking donors who were bringing the museum’s endowment to $75 million.

Each year, I wonder how MOCA can compete with galas in previous years, which have presented naked women on turntables, speed-talking auctioneers and a rodeo cowboy with a cattle whip, and Lady Gaga. Then again, the MOCA Gala never disappoints, and again outdid itself and triumphed this year, too. 

By itself, the chance to wander through the Fischer exhibition was a huge part of the fun. Packed into the MOCA Grand venue alone were the Swiss artist’s skeletons, a house constructed entirely of bread and a massive cascade of tear drops.

At the Geffen Contemporary, adjacent to the dining hall, Edythe and Eli Broad surveyed the expansive clay world created by Fisher, in conjunction with 1,500 volunteers.

“Fantastic,” said Eli Broad.

The crowd mixed artists Fisher, Shepard Fairey, Doug Aitken, Julian Schnabel, Edgar Arcenaux, Mark Bradford, Lisa Eisner, and others; and actors Owen Wilson of “Midnight in Paris,” Jennifer Tilly of “Bullets Over Broadway,” Timothy Olyphant of “Justified,” Ellen Pompeo of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Lisa Edelstein of “House M.D.,” Michelle Joan Papillion of “American Gangster,” model Stephanie Seymour, George Kotsiopoulos of “The Fashion Police,” Cameron Silver of the new reality series, “The Dukes of Melrose,” Charlotte Rampling, Jeff Snyder, Tennessee Thomas and Michelle Joan Papillion.

Also mingling were Sumner Redstone, Anne Sweeney, Darren Star, Gus Van Sant, Steve Tisch, Lauren King, Grazka Taylor, Antonio Villaraigosa, Eugene Sadovoy, Sutton Stracke, Brian Grazer and Veronica Smiley, Carla and Fred Sands, Christine and Gabriel Chiu, Pam and Jarl Mohn, Mandy and Clifford Einstein, Virginie and Laurent Degryse, Marti and Tony Oppenheimer, Pamela West and Collin Bernsen, Susan and Alan Casdan, Elsa Longhauser and John Welchman, Priscilla and Jamie Halper, and Gelila Assefa Puck and Wolfang Puck.

Larry Gagosian hosted the dinner, chaired by Lilly Tartikoff Karatz and Bruce Karatz, NancyJane and Mark Goldston, Nancy Marks and Carolyn Powers. Honorary Chairs included Stephanie and Peter Brant, Sarah and Ariel Emanuel, Maja Hoffman, Eugenio Lopez, Maurice Marciano and Peter Morton.
