Young Stars and Screen Legends Lined the Front Row at Giorgio Armani Prive to See a Superb Day-to-Night Haute Couture Collection

 

After completing “Blood Ties” in New York – a Guillem Canet-directed film co-starring Clive Owen and Marion Cottilard -  Zoe Saldana said she decided to come to Paris for the Giorgio Armani Prive show with her sister Cisely. Named for the Hollywood legend, Cicely Tyson, but with a slightly altered spelling, Cisely Saldana is a filmmaker. 

“I’m not here on business,” said the glamorous star of “Avatar” and “Star Trek.” “I just decided to take some time for myself and come to Paris.”

Never mind that the Paris haute couture schedule featured three days of back-to-back shows. Saldana said the Giorgio Armani presentation was sufficient. “I’m just seeing the one show,” she said.  

And the July 3 presentation at the Theatre National de Chaillot proved a popular one indeed. Among others taking their places were screen legends Sophia Loren and Claudia Cardinale, French actress Isabelle Huppert, Belgian actress Deborah Francois, Princess Tatiana of Denmark and Greece (Tatiana Blatnik), Virginie Courin-Clarins, Roberta Armani, Leslie Mann of “Knocked Up,” Michelle Yeoh of “The Lady;” and Shailene Woodley of “The Descendants,” for which Woodley won the MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance.

A rising sun provided the backdrop, as the parade of fashions began with streamlined trouser suits in ice blues, lilacs and mauves, many of them topped in chic black Philip Treacy hats. 

Next came soft bird sounds to signal a sunset segment in eye-popping color. At last, as the room darkened and a projection of stars provided the only light, the show closed with gowns as dark as the night skies, falling softly and elegantly to the floor in straight lines.

After Giorgio Armani took his bow and the lights came up, Shailene Woodley said she hadn’t seen many fashion shows, but as for this one, “It was beautiful,” she said.
