No Wonder Madonna Chose Givenchy Haute Couture for Halftime: A Stunning Spring 2012 Collection

Leave it to Madonna to choose Givenchy haute couture for her half-time show at Super Bowl 2012. At the spring summer haute couture shows, presented in Paris from Jan. 23-25, Givenchy showed such a stunning collection that it was easy to see why the music superstar, known for her fashion genius, again chose to work with Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci.

Tisci also designed outfits for Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” tour in 2008. But this time, his Givenchy creations were seen by more than one-third of the American public - 111.3 million viewers – on the most-watched program in U.S. television history.

At the Paris shows, under Tisci’s direction there were just ten styles in the official Givenchy haute couture spring 2012 presentation in Paris. But what ten styles they were!

Beaded and detailed, and shown mostly on static mannequins inside a classic French “hotel particulier” – in this case the Hotel d’Evreux on the Place Vendome – the Givenchy collection dazzled, even more so than usual as the presentation made it possible to stand inches from the gowns on display and spend time studying each one. Brilliantly inventive, one number featured a shoulder chain to hold up a glittery beaded skirt; another featured layers and layers of light-catching fringe.

As guests perused the fashions in the gilded 18^th century rooms, they enjoyed champagne, hors d’oeuvres, macarons and the panoramic view from the windows, overlooking the historic Vendome column and the many haute joailliers in the classically beautiful buildings on the plaza.

A few models also walked from room to room, proving that the gowns were not only exquisite standing still, but also lovely in motion.
