Lionel Richie, Katie Couric, Tyrese Gibson face off at Global Gourmet Games

Fresh from an Apr. 29 pool party to celebrate “The Fate of the Furious” hitting the $1-billion box-office mark, actor Tyrese Gibson (a.k.a. Roman Pearce in the smash film series) turned up at another shindig: the Global Gourmet Games, benefiting the Milken Institute’s FasterCures and kicking off the May 1-4 Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills.

In a conversation during dinner, Gibson said that no sooner had he left fellow celebrants Vin Diesel and director F. Gary Gray, hopped out of the car at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and spied the suits and ties and everybody looking “extra fancy with their best haircut,” he decided to step up his sartorial game, by changing from jeans and loafers into something more formal…

As an aside, I caught up with Lionel Richie, Lisa Parigi and Katie Couric a few days later at the Milken Institute Global Conference as well.

And funny enough, although Couric had said before the games that she was confident in her knowledge of nutrition, she said she ended up answering most of the food questions wrong. (So did most everyone, myself included.)

Food questions aside, during the next few days, Couric was brilliant as moderator of a panel at the Global Conference on health priorities, as an interviewer of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and in conversation with Mary Hart during a session on “iconic women in media.”
