One of L.A.’s most fun fundraisers for theater-lovers, the event this year honors multiple award-winning actress Carol Burnett with the Distinction in Theater Award and Jim Gianopulos with the Distinction in Service Award. Warren Beatty will present the prestigious award to Gianopulos, co-chairman and chief executive of Fox Filmed Entertainment. Proceeds go towards the artistic and outreach programs of the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood.

Robert Iger, chairman and chief executive of the Disney Company, and his wife journalist Willow Bay, are honorary co-chairs of the evening, which will take the audience backstage to hear behind-the-scenes stories from some of L.A.’s most prominent actors.

Although this year’s participants haven’t been announced as yet, two years ago when I had the good fortune to be there, Clint Eastwood, Matthew Morrison, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Rita Wilson, Sharon Lawrence, Beau Bridges, French Stewart, Hank Azaria, Ashley Brown, Christina Applegate, Dick Van Dyke and Sarah Chang either sang, danced, played the violin or shared their backstage tales.  In previous years, other participants have included Tom Hanks, Brendan Fraser, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ray Romano, Annette Bening, David Hyde Pierce, Martin Short and many more.

Acclaimed as a film, television and theater actress, Carol Burnett starred for 11 years in TV’s “The Carol Burnett Show,” which Time Magazine named in 2007 as one of the 100 best television shows of all time. Also a playwright, Burnett wrote a play about her life, “Hollywood Arms” with her daughter.

In his years at FOX, Gianopulos has championed, among other projects: “Titanic” and “Avatar,” two of the industry’s most successful films ever. Among other achievements, Gianopulos serves on the National Entertainment Advisory Council for the Anti-Defamation League, on the Board and Executive Committee of the X-Prize Foundation and as a Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University.

City National Bank is the event’s sponsor, with presenters also including Audi of America, Los Angeles Magazine, Belvedere Vodka and the W Los Angeles-Westwood Hotel and its poolside restaurant, The Backyard, where a pre-show reception will take place for event patrons.  The evening also includes a silent auction, which prospective bidders can find online here.
