Let the Kids Grow Holiday Gala

Let the Kids Grow Holiday Gala Honors Dwight Howard, Romeo Miller, KPWR’s Big Boy and More

The star-studded first annual “Let the Kids Grow Holiday Gala” was all about the children.

Hosted by philanthropist Simin Hashemizadeh, the Dec. 1 event honored Dwight Howard, rapper Romeo Miller, KPWR Radio’s “Big Boy,” Dr. Ralph Mayer and Dr. Shahrad Rahman as positive role models for the at-risk youth the organization serves. (See pictures in the gallery below.)

On receiving his award, Romeo Miller spoke of the important work of the Let the Kids Grow Foundation. LTKG provides after-school facilities, medical screenings and other services to youngsters in the city’s underserved areas.

Howard said he felt honored to receive an award and LTKG founder Master P., a.k.a., Percy Miller, said he felt honored to be part of the organization. Master P is a former rapper, producer and entrepreneur; Romeo Miller is Master P’s son.

The black-tie event took place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, the ballroom transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with crystal chandeliers and an abundance of white flowers. Music came from a stellar array of performers, including Freda Payne, Reuben Cannon and Cymphonique Miller. (Cannon is Nick Cannon’s brother and Miller is Master P’s daughter.)

Although not present, actor/ producer/ director Tyler Perry, TV personality Nick Cannon and award-winning actress Kirstie Alley were also named as honorees.

Hazhemizadeh, too, received special recognition. She is owner and founder of South Pacific Surgery Centers, Forbelle skincare products and WE TV, or Women’s Entertainment Television.

As honorees received their awards and the auction proceeded energetically, the crowd was awash with holiday cheer and the spirit of giving — and of helping to “Let the Kids Grow.”

Also walking the red carpet and enjoying the evening were Kyle Massey, Shane Murphy, Bria Murphy, Eva Marcille, Gillian Waters, Rosci Diaz, Kevin Lee, Joy Prieto, Camilla Poindexter, Davood Roostai, Michael Jai White, Marcus Shirock, Andy Madadian, Olden Polynice, James Cannon, Paul Leon, Cheryl Leon, and, in keeping with the holidays, Santa Claus.
