Keely and Pierce Brosnan Pitch in to Help Fund Malibu Nutcracker

Liane and Richard Weintraub welcomed 180 supporters of the Malibu Ballet and Performing Arts Society to their Malibu estate Nov. 9 for a sneak preview of “The Nutcracker,” which will be performed Dec. 9-11 at the Smothers Theater at Pepperdine University. Among co-hosts were Keely and Pierce Brosnan, Jane Seymour and Stacy Keach, Tina and Fred Segal and others.

Liane Weintraub said the group is comprised of several individual Malibu-based ballet companies. Included are the Malibu Civic Ballet Company, the Malibu Concert Ballet Company and the Malibu Children’s Chamber Ballet Company, all of whom are trained at the Malibu Civic Ballet Academy under the direction of Diane Linder.

Linder, the company’s artistic director, is also the ballet’s choreographer. In addition to training and coaching the dancers, she  has also attracted professionals from the Los Angeles ballet community to perform with the local Malibu dancers. The group performs ballets and recitals throughout the year, as well as The Nutcracker during the Christmas season.

Tickets for the dinner were priced from $150 to $5,000 each with additional proceeds from raffle ticket sales, offering a chance to win a 2011 E-Z-GO ST Custom golf cart from Malibu Custom Carts. As fund-raising efforts are ongoing, raffle ticket sales will continue until Dec. 11.

According to society president Deborah La Gorce Kramer, the money would help fund the ballet society’s Outreach Program, which brings hundreds of disadvantaged children to Malibu annually to see the classic ballet. She said for some children, the Malibu Nutcracker may be their first live performance.

More event co-hosts, supporting the Malibu Nutcracker were Janet and Lester Knispel, Anna and David Anawalt, Christine and Bo Bazylevsky, Linda and Trevor Colby, Chris and Chester Griffiths, Kevin Montgomery and Dennis Duban, Alyssa and Davis Nguyen, Nicole and Michael O’Rourke, Ramona and Matt Serletic, Jane and Stephen Somers, Roohi and Rian Stack, Kristen and Curtis Swindal, Ellen Palevsky, Chris Cortazzo, Dianne Burnett and Steven Grahek.

Performances at the Smothers Theater at Pepperdine will take place Friday, Dec 9 at 7:30 p.m, Saturday,  Dec 10  at 2:00 p.m. and  7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec 11 at 2:00 p.m.
