Otis Honors Joie, Jenni Kayne and Rosemary Brantley at Gala Annual Fashion Show
The Otis College of Art and Design honored designer Jenni Kayne and the luxury brand Joie at its annual black-tie gala and fashion show.
Held at the Beverly Hilton, the annual benefit featured L.A.’s most elaborate student fashion show, consisting of music, dance and 120 original designs to wear for every occasion, from casual afternoons to important evenings and everything in between.
At a silent auction that began during the cocktail hour and ended after the fashion show, guests then had the opportunity to buy the student designs. All proceeds from tickets and auction sales went toward scholarships.
As guests dined, Jenni Kayne received the 2016 Style Icon Award on behalf of her namesake brand, while Joie VP Rachel Wilder-Hill accepted the 2016 Design Innovation Award. The college also paid tribute to Rosemary Brantley, founding chair of the college’s fashion design program.
In researching, sketching and creating garments for the night’s highlight, i.e., the student fashion show, juniors and seniors worked with top brands and designers, this year including Todd Oldham for Metro Los Angeles, Bob Mackie, Uniqlo, Prairie Underground, Joie, Nanette Lepore, Lucky Brand, Amuse Society, Blu Pony Vintage, Michi, Perry Ellis, and J Brand.
Otis College was recently named no. 1 in the nation by College Magazine for its fashion program and no. 6 by the Economist for adding value to a student’s potential income. Alumni and faculty are Fulbright, MacArthur, and Guggenheim grant recipients, Oscar winners and noted costume designers.
