Preview: Hollywood Bowl Opening Night 2014
Kristin Chenoweth will be getting a little help from her friends, during her induction into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame this summer on Hollywood Bowl Opening Night 2014.
Lea Michele will be joining the Tony Award-winning 4’11” singer for a duet during the June 21 festivities. The two first performed together in a 2009 episode of “Glee,” when Michele, aka Rachel Berry, and Chenoweth, aka April Rhodes, sang “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret.”
Their Hollywood Bowl selection hasn’t been announced, but my money is on “For Good,” which Chenoweth sang in the role she originated as Glinda in “Wicked.”
That’s because Michele sang the song in season 2 of “Glee,” when the “New Directions” Glee Club visited New York. In that episode, she and Chris Colfer snuck into the theater where Wicked was playing, stood nearly transfixed upon stage and then sang the song together – Michele in Elphaba’s role and Colfer as Glinda.
If this bound-to-be-fabulous Chenoweth/Michele pairing weren’t enough for a magical night under the stars, Carol Burnett will deliver the tribute to Chenoweth and the Go-Go’s and Pink Martini will also be inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame.
The Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame, exhibited on the main floor of the Hollywood Bowl Museum, honors artists whose talents embody the spirit of the world-renowned Hollywood Bowl. Last year Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Patti Austin and John Legend were inducted and over the years, honorees have also included John Williams, Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, Henry Mancini, Frank Sinatra, Plácido Domingo, Liza Minnelli, B.B. King and Josh Groban.
Proceeds from the evening will go towards the Los Angeles Philharmonic and its Education Programs, which reach more than 120,00 children, teachers and adults annually.
Opening Night concert packages, priced from $2,300 to $15,750 for the boxes, include a VIP reception and a gourmet dinner prepared by Patina, served in the box seats. For further information on VIP packages, call 213 972-3051.
