Race to Erase MS

The event: The 22nd annual The Race to Erase MS gala, hosted by Nancy Davis and honoring fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, got off to a fast start Apr. 24, as Disney stars G. Hannelius and Rowan Blanchard introduced 12-year-old Internet rapper MattyB to open the show. Held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, the celebrity-studded affair also closed on a high note with performances by Rita Ora and Ne-Yo, and by evening’s end, proceeds of $1.7 million had been raised for research on treatments for multiple sclerosis.
The scene:Paris Hilton stepped onto the stage, cradling a 4-month-old Pomeranian puppy, on offer to the highest bidder. The live auction at dinner, introduced by Anne Heche and James Tupper, also included a 2015 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT, trips to exotic locales, a dinner for 20 and more. A 600-lot silent auction took place during the cocktail hour, which featured jewelry, accessories, more trips, show tickets, gift baskets, celebrity meet-and-greets and other goodies.

As an aside, this event delivered one of the year’s best musical experiences with rapping internet star MattyB for the youngsters (and there were plenty in attendance); the charming Rita Ora, who confessed that she forgot to say the “fake goodbye” before presenting her final number as an encore; and Ne-Yo, backed up by a trio of astonishingly talented and energetic dancers, who never broke rhythm – or seemingly a sweat – during the mini-concert.
For shoppers, there were also 600 items in a silent auction and for celebrity-watchers, familiar faces filled the ballroom. Actors Robert Knepper, Camille Grammar, Sandra Taylor, Loni Anderson, Cyrus Wilcox and Cybill Shepherd’s daughter Clementine Ford sat at our table, which was just one table out of more than one hundred.
