LARRY ELLISON ANNOUNCES $200 MILLION GIFT TO MEDICAL SCIENCE
“Rebels With a Cause” honored philanthropists Cheryl and Haim Saban, and then before the affair ended, Oracle founder and Chairman Larry Ellison announced a $200 million gift to the University of Southern California to establish the Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine of USC.
James Corden hosted the extravagant May 11 gala, which featured entertainment by pop superstar Christina Aguilera, Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth and noted singer/songwriter Leona Lewis. Funds from ticket sales and additional contributions benefited medical research led by David B. Agus, MD, director of the USC Norris Westside Cancer Center and the Center of Applied Molecular Medicine (CAMM) at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
Singer Sandy Ellison and Skydance Media CEO David Ellison co-chaired the event, held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, which was produced by director/ producer Don Mischer with musical direction by 16-time Grammy Award winner David Foster.
Others in the crowd included actors, business leaders and other notable guests, including Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Julianne Hough, Arnold Schwarzenegger, C.L. Max Nikias, Marc Benioff, McG, Jerry Bruckheimer, Skip Brittenham, Charles Perez, Edward Zwick, Guy Osiary, Vivi Nevo and Lorna Luft, to whom – as Judy Garland’s daughter – Chenoweth dedicated “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
