Rivals United Raises $250,000 for Cancer Research

Forget the traditional USC/ UCLA rivalry. Supporters of both universities teamed up Nov. 13 at Rivals United for a Kure, a benefit for Kure It Cancer Research.

Held at the City Club Los Angeles, the affair honored the late Barry Hoeven, Kure It Cancer Research Founder; and Brett Munger, president of Commonwealth Partners, the event’s presenting sponsor.

Given that star quarterbacks Paul McDonald of USC and Matt Stevens of UCLA co-chaired the event, sports talk prevailed throughout the evening, especially as guests also included NY Giant, Buffalo Bill and USC linebacker Keith Rivers, the Oakland A’s Ryon Healy and USC’s John Mazur, among other sports figures.

Proceeds of $250,000 went to USC’s Norris and UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Centers to support underfunded cancer research projects.
