Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2012

Valentino Provides an Elegant Ending to the Spring 2012 Haute Couture Shows

From her front row seat at the Valentino show, Cameron Diaz paid careful attention to the passing fashion parade. The Jan. 25 evening presentation at the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild in Paris was the last of the spring/ summer 2012 haute couture collections, and Diaz had already attended quite a few others earlier in the week.

So if Academy Awards dressing is on her agenda, this week perfectly positioned her to choose wisely. In addition, according to InStyle Magazine, Diaz was attending the Paris shows to select looks for an upcoming fashion shoot.

(Update: It was announced in February that Diaz would indeed be a presenter at this year’s Academy Awards, so it will be interesting to see which of all the extraordinary gowns she saw between Jan. 23-25 that she chooses to wear on Oscar Night.)

Of all the fashion shows of the past week, the Valentino collection – designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier-Paolo Piciolo in white, pale shades and soft florals – was perhaps the most elegant. There were dresses, suits and gowns embellished with lace, embroidered flowers, intricate smocking and organza spirals, all of them fit for a princess, (albeit not of the green variety Diaz voices in the “Shrek” films.)

According to the program, some styles took 1,000 hours or more to create. Other styles listed the number of beads or jewels; in one case, 1,000 glass beads; in another, 5,000 stones and crystals. It was a remarkable collection.

Check back over the next week or so to see more photos and more stories from the Paris haute couture shows.
