W Best Performances Issue
Cate Blanchett, Jared Leto, Bradley Cooper, Bruce Dern and More
The formula for a great party?
Here it is… an eclectic mix of terrific people, a cozy space and superior champagne.
Sponsored by Dom Perignon and Cadillac, the celebration for W Magazine’s best performances issue seemed the perfect way to toast the awards season.
For this Jan. 7 affair, artists, designers, models, Hollywood’s top celebrities and others packed nearly every square inch of a penthouse suite at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. In this ideally informal setting, surrounded by Juergen Teller’s glorious star portraits from W’s “best performances” issue, editor-in-chief Stefano Tonchi, editor-at-large Lynn Hirschberg and hotelier Andre Balazs welcomed a massive crowd.
Guests included actors Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams, Julie Delpy, Idris Elba, Sally Hawkins, Lupita Nyong’o, Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Jacqueline Bisset, Sofia Vergara, Corey Stoll, Steve Coogan, Michelle Dockery, Kirsten Dunst, Marisa Tomei, Kelly Lynch, Mitch Glazer, Molly Sims, Sarah Hyland, Amanda de Cadenet, Jesse Metcalfe, Cara Santana, Ashley Madekwe, Kate Hudson, Garrett Hedlund, Allison Williams and Chord Overstreet.
Also on hand were directors Steve McQueen, Sofia Coppola and David O. Russell, models Amber Valletta and Liberty Ross, producer Lawrence Bender, stylist George Kotsiopoulos, artists Catherine Opie and Francesco Vezzoli, burlesque queen Dita Von Teese, fashion designers Jeremy Scott, designer Christian Louboutin, Decades boutique owner Cameron Silver, Giorgio Armani’s Wanda McDaniel and Rod Manley, NY Giants chair Steve Tisch, filmmaker Liz Goldwyn, agents Kevin Huvane and Brian Lourd, and more.
Looking so glamorous, she barely resembled her “Blue Jasmine” character who couldn’t let go of her bedraggled Chanel jacket, Blanchett and I chatted about women’s fears of losing everything, as one reason for the film’s longevity at the box office. (Her brilliant performance didn’t hurt either.)
Never mind the apparent baby bump, Olivia Wilde didn’t forgo the glamour – she in fact wore a dazzling cocktail frock.
On the other hand, Robin Wright came casual in jeans, bringing along her beautiful daughter, Dylan Penn.
At party’s end, on this cool night, the very considerate valets offered covered seating to guests awaiting their cars. There, I had the pleasure of talking with Bruce Dern, star of “Nebraska.”
Having captured multiple nominations for his role in this compelling film, Dern said he saw black and white as the ideal cinematic choice to capture the essence of the film’s locale. Moreover, in my humble opinion, he was the ideal choice to capture the essence of this role. Good luck in the Academy Awards, Bruce.
