World Premiere of Build at the Geffen
Following the Opening Night performance of the new play, “BUILD,” at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood, the audience adjourned to nearby Tanino Ristorante for wine, hors d’oeuvres and an Italian buffet. There to celebrate were playwright Michael Golamco, director Will Frears, cast members Thomas Sadowski, Laura Heisler and Peter Katona, Geffen supporters and other theater VIPs.
In BUILD, Sadowski and Katona play computer geniuses, working out the kinks in the sequel to their blockbuster computer game, which has made them both multi-millionaires. The Tony-nominated Sadowski, who currently stars in HBO’s “The Newsroom,” plays a shut-in, popping pills and eating pizza in his bathrobe; Katona is a straight-laced businessman, in suit and tie; while Heisler is a red-headed robot, modeled after Sadowski’s late wife.
In conversations over the lasagna, pasta and other Italian specialties at the after-party, theater-goers talked of technology, computer games and the kind of artificial intelligence depicted in the play, i.e., the robot, known as “the a.i.” Heisler said she thought of her character as a sophisticated hologram.
Audi of America sponsored the Opening Night celebration; Malibu Family Wines provided drinks.
The play continues through Nov. 18. Click here for tickets and further information.
